At a conference on May 16 in Antwerp, the Interreg project “Border information Flanders-Netherlands” was festively concluded. Aranco has fulfilled the role of network coordinator within this project for the past 3 years. During the closing conference, the first 60 advisers from the border area received recognition as Advisor Border Info Point (GIP) Flanders-Netherlands. The key partners involved in the cross-border labor market in Kleve will shortly sign a declaration of intent for structural cooperation and working groups will start working in the fields of employment mediation, information provision and education to develop and implement concrete action plans.

If there were to be a common and borderless labor market in the Euregion Rhine-Waal, that would be a major boost for the economy, said Hubert Bruls, vice-president of the Euregio Rhine-Waal and mayor of Nijmegen. “This could grow to eight percent. That is why we must aim to make the border disappear further and to remove obstacles. ” The Platform Arbeit / dsmarkt responds to this by striving for a structural and result-oriented cooperation between parties involved from the business community, education and agencies in the field of job placement. All with a common interest across national borders, with a single executive approach and the aim of better labor mobility.

9-12-2019. In the past 8 years, Aranco has been repeatedly involved in projects regarding crossborder information provision in the German-Dutch and Flemish-Dutch border areas. The starting point for this process has been the development of the business plan for the very first cross-border information point, being the Aachen-Eurode information point (2011). Crossborder information points offer services to employees who work, live or study in one of the neighboring countries or who are planning to do so. In the years that followed, we developed amongst others business plans aimed at personal cross-border information provision along the German-Dutch and Flemish-Dutch borders (2013-2014). Moreover, we wrote a communication plan for the cross-border information points in five Euregions (2014). More recent projects relate to the development of a labour market platform in the Rhine-Waal Euregion, as well as the network coordination of the ‘Flanders-Netherlands Crossborder Information Provision’ project, which ended in June this year.

The crossborder information points have now reached the next, sustainable, phase in their development. On November 25th, a covenant arranging the structural financing of the crossborder information points was signed in Nijmegen by State Secretary Van Ark and representatives of the border regions. With that, an important milestone has been achieved in the development of the cross-border information points. We are proud that we have been able to contribute to this development in the past 8 years.

Date: 1-8-2018. In the South Limburg labor market region, the ambition is to implement a common sectoral approach for tackling labor market challenges. The focus will be on the following promising sectors for the region:

  • Maastricht-Heuvelland (Customer Service, Manufacturing, Leisure Horeca)
  • Parkstad (Healthcare, Smart Services, Medical Logistics)
  • Western Mining Region (Automotive, Logistics, Technology)

The intention is to develop the most efficient and effective approach for these sectors. To this end, Aranco has developed six sector plans on behalf of the three central municipalities (Maastricht, Heerlen and Sittard-Geleen), including a concrete plan of action. The sector plans thus form the basis for the further project-based approach by the various relevant implementing parties. The starting point for this sectoral approach is that problems within a sector are always tackled as a joint problem of the entire labor market region. A second project phase has now started, in which the three remaining sector plans will be developed.

Date: 1-8-2018. The healthcare landscape in Limburg (and the rest of the Netherlands) is currently changing rapidly due to developments such as the aging population, the increasing complexity of healthcare, technological developments (such as e-health and remote healthcare) and changing visions about healthcare (such as the concept of positive health). From Aranco we have been involved several times in projects in the healthcare sector in recent years. Based on this involvement, we have experienced the need to bring the changes in the sector, and the various good initiatives that respond to these changes, to the attention of a wide audience. And a lot is happening in our region! That is why we will soon be launching a biweekly blog about a public health-related initiative in Limburg or the Euregion under the heading of “Ph value of Limburg”. We will discuss this with a wide range of interesting people, based on the motto: “Health and care, from, for and by the people in Limburg”. Ph value is investigative, critical and above all curious. Keep an eye on the LinkedIn page of Aranco and her employees!
